Matthew William Bloskey

Matthew William Bloskey was born on September 24, 2000 in Kansas City, MO. He was a senior at Rockhurst High School and a lifelong member of the Church of the Ascension parish. He played football from second grade through his sophomore year and played rugby for the Junior Blues junior year. He was a Spirit Club Leader, Freshman Retreat Group Leader and Senior Brother.

Matthew was a special light in this world, shining upon every person he encountered. He was kind, compassionate and respectful to others. He genuinely cared about people’s feelings, never wanting to disappoint and always striving to make his family proud. His zest for life and magnetic personality attracted people into his orbit, sharing his positive energy and sparking positive energy in others.

Matthew was wise beyond his years. He had the impeccable character of a grown man, yet an innocent, goofy sensibility that charmed everyone around him. He was an amazing example of how to live a good life and be a good person.

Matthew’s family meant everything to him. He was happiest when his entire family was together, making memories in big and small moments. Matthew was a great friend, and his friends became his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, and was passionate about ranch life, working on his family’s farms, hunting and fishing.

Matthew was comfortable in his own skin, whether dressed in jeans and cowboy boots, or taking the field in a football helmet and pads. He was funny, but not at the expense of others. He loved to sing -- loudly -- on the lawnmower, in the shower or in the Rockhurst hallways, winning more points for enthusiasm than musical talent, yet spreading joy and making others smile. He was a strong physical presence with a gentle soul, expressing love for friends and family through warm, enveloping hugs and easy affection.

Matthew was a wonderful, compassionate son, brother, cousin, grandson, friend. He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Sally Bloskey of Overland Park, KS; his siblings, Megan Bloskey and Jeffrey Bloskey of Overland Park, KS; his maternal grandparents, Linda McGilley of Overland Park, KS and Tom (Jackie) Runyan of St. Joseph, MO; paternal grandparents Terry and June Ann Bloskey of Scottsdale, AZ; aunts and uncles Casey (Bob) Walsh of Overland Park, KS, Kathleen (Shaun) Cussen of Leawood, KS, Tommy (Beth) Runyan of Purcell, OK, and Beth (Mike) Garside of Coeur d'Alene, ID; and many loving cousins and family members.

Visitation is Friday, October 12 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and a Mass of Christian Burial will begin immediately following at 4:00 pm at the Church of the Ascension at 9510 W. 127th Street, Overland Park, KS 66213. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial gifts be made for scholarship assistance in the name of Matthew Bloskey at Rockhurst High School and/or Ducks Unlimited in memory of Matthew Bloskey.
