Mary Vera passed away on May 11, 2013. She was born on May 9, 1928 in Palo Pinto, Texas, but lived in Kansas City her whole life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Vera; parents, Pablo and Antonina Hernandez; 2 sisters, Lupe Rodriguez and Lily Morales; brother, Frank Hernandez; and two daughters, Theresa Medellin and Diana Vera. She is survived by her 5 sons, Mike Castaneda (Patty), Anthony Castaneda (Rosario), Raymond Castaneda, Edward Vera (Anita), Frank Vera; 9 daughters, Helen Madrueno, Rita Mendez (Edward), Barbara Esparza, Yolanda Piseno, Susan Palacio, Mary Vera, Carmen Vera, Laura Vera and Patricia Holy (Les); brother, Manuel Hernandez; sisters, Margaret Armendariz, Jane Vasquez, Angie Hernandez and Lila Casperson; 60 grandchildren, 111 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary always supported her grandchildren in getting their education. She had a strong religious belief and prayed her Rosary faithfully. When her children needed a strong shoulder or someone to listen, her door was always open. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was the heartbeat of our family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Holy Name Church, 16 South Iowa, Kansas City, KS; burial following in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 at the McGilley Midtown Chapel with the Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
