Mary Ellen Sweat

Mary Ellen Sweat, 94, Kansas City, MO, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Mary was born October 3, 1923, to William and Irene Roesing in Toledo, Ohio. After graduating from high school, she worked as an accountant for her father at Champion Spark Plug Company in Toledo. Her first and favorite car was a 1932 Rumble Seat Ford, which she purchased with her own money. She loved to dance and met her future husband, Jack, at a local dance. They married August 10, 1946 and eventually moved to Kansas City, MO.

Mary loved working retail and worked at The Jones Store in the Book Department and eventually became a Buyer for Women's Clothing. She retired from The Jones Store after 35 years of service.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert and Richard Roesing; and her husband and best friend, Jack. She is survived by her son Bruce Sweat; her daughter, Deborah Sweat (Munroe); her son-in-law, Michael Munroe; her granddaughter, Ashley Munroe; her daughter, Sharon Sweat (Chapman) and her son-in-law Steve Chapman.

Mary was a loving mother and wife. We will miss her and her sense of humor and wonderful smile. The family would like to give thanks to the nurses and staff at Villa Ventura where she lived for the past 10 years of her life; the Interim Hospice nurses that helped care for Mary and the Kansas City Hospice House that provided her and her family peace and comfort. A private service for the family will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home.
