Mary was born July 12, 1931 in Centerville, IA, to Wilbur and Myrtle (Wise) Moss Briggs. Mrs. Briggs died shortly after Mary's birth, and she was raised by Gaye and Olive Briggs. The family moved to Kansas City in 1947, and she graduated from East High School in 1949. She was a member of the National Honor Society.
She married Daniel O'Leary in 1956 and moved to Raytown. They later divorced. She was employed with the S.W. Bell Telephone Co., retiring in 1986 with 36 years of service. She was a 40 year breast cancer survivor.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church since 1959. A member of the former Altar Society and Friendly Club, Pro-Life Ministry, Bereavement Committee, Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, and Church Women United of Raytown. She received the Bishop's Award in 2004.
She was a lifetime member of the Communication Workers of America, a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers, and did volunteer work for Shepherd's Center-Raytown, Meals on Wheel, Council on Aging for the City of Raytown, Sisters in Jesus the Lord at Our Lady of Lourdes, American Cancer Society and REGAP (Retired Greyhounds).
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors include daughters Teresa O'Leary, Kansas City, MO, Sharon O'Leary (Barry), Puyallup, WA; grandchildren, Melissa Peoples, Kansas City, MO, Elizabeth Woodington, Redmond, WA, Tanner Overly, Trevor Peoples, and Carson Baker; brother Bill Briggs (Marilyn), Ottumwa, IA; cousins, nieces, nephew, great nieces, great nephews; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
Mass of Christian Burial will be February 10th 2021 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 7049 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64133, with burial to follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
Visitation will be February 10th 2021 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes with Rosary
Friends will also recite the Rosary 30 minutes prior to the Mass, and everyone is invited to join the Rosary.
Per her request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sisters in Jesus the Lord, 7009 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64133.
