Mary Frances O’Bleness, age 83, of Raytown, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
Mary was the second child of three children born to Floyd A. Bassett and Agnes W. Bassett. She was raised in Bethel, Kansas and Independence, Missouri. In 1955, she married William H. Hamm Jr. and they had three children together and were later divorced. In 1977, she married George A. O’Bleness (WW II Navy veteran) and they created a blended family with his two children from a previous marriage.
Mary is survived by her younger sister, Kathleen Bassett and five children; Nancy Needham and Russ (spouse), Beverly Hoffman and Steven (spouse), Allen Hamm and Lori (spouse), Gregory O’Bleness, and Brian O’Bleness and Cyndie (spouse). Mary had fourteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
Mary loved to dance, play golf, travel and spend time with her family and friends. She had a career as a Purchasing Manager for a local paper company in Kansas City, Missouri. Her travels took her to Mexico, Ireland, and Hawaii. On one of her trips to Hawaii, Mary and her friends volunteered to help on the restoration project of the USS Missouri Battleship.
There will be no formal graveside services; however, interment will be at Newcomers Floral Hills Cemetery. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date for family members.
