Mary was born on a farm and grew up in Roanoke, Missouri. After skipping third grade, she graduated from Huntsville High School. Mary then attended Central Methodist University where she graduated as a Phi Beta Kappa in Chemistry. At Central Methodist, she met her lifelong husband Joseph W. Mosby whom had just returned from the Navy in WWII. The two were married shortly after graduating college in 1949.
Upon graduation, Mary ran a test lab working for the US Department of Agriculture in Jefferson City, Missouri. The two settled and built a house in Linn, Missouri. Five years later, Mary gave up her lab job to be a full time mother. Mary was a loving mother of four boys.
In 1963, her husband got a job offer in Kansas City, Missouri and the family relocated to Kansas City. After the youngest son was in high school, Mary decided to go back to work. Mary started her own business selling gift lines and wrapping paper to gift shops in four states. Her business was a huge success, eventually being an outsource partner to all the Hallmark Stores nationally. After being in business for 20 years, she retired to spend time with her grandchildren.
Mary was a highly intelligent woman of integrity with a very strong work ethic. Family history was something she took great pride in. She also loved to go to sporting events and watch her sons play. She was somebody that always commanded respect with her calm, confident, persona.
She was preceded in death by: her parents George and Nell Pitts, her husband Joseph W. Mosby, her brother George Pitts, her sisters Martha Nell and Zan Denny, and her son John Stuart Mosby.
She is survived by her family: Sons: Joseph Mosby, James (Janelle) Mosby, Steve Mosby. Grandchildren: Alexia Mosby, Alejandro Mosby, Denny Kay Mosby, Josie Mosby.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with Funeral Service from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, Graveside Service at 11:45 AM Saturday, July 13. Services will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home & Cemetery at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
