Mary Pat Merker, 63, passed away September 25, 2024. Mary Pat, also known as MP, was born to Gerry and Sandy Merker. She attended St. Peter’s and Christ the King Catholic Schools through the eighth grade and she graduated from Archbishop O’Hara High School. Mary Pat was on the freshman cheerleading squad and the varsity girls’ basketball team.
After graduation she chose pipefitting as an occupation and was one of the first women to join Pipefitters Local #533. In 1982 she moved to Orlando, Florida where she started her own business, MPM Construction. She came back to Kansas City in 1988 and joined her father as a pipefitter for Honeywell. After having spent 25 years as a pipefitter, Mary Pat retired, dividing her time between Kansas City and the Lake of the Ozarks. Mary Pat loved to cook and entertain. Whether it was eggs benedict, homemade Italian sausage, ribs on the smoker or your favorite Italian dish, she was always planning the next meal.
Mary Pat loved dogs and cats, most importantly her dog Nudie, who was her companion for 18 years. She also enjoyed fishing, competing in bass tournaments or just riding around in the pontoon boat. Mary Pat was also a big golf, football and Nascar fan. Whenever you saw Mary Pat you would always hear her music playing.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include a sister, Peggy; a brother, Gerry; a niece, Katie (Derek); two great nephews; five aunts, Edna, JoAnn, Jeanie, Kathleen and Suzanne; four uncles, Don, David, Rick and Dave as well as many cousins.
