Mary was born on July 22, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Rollyn Burns Sr and Helen Meaney Burns. She had three brothers and one sister. She attended Glennon High School in Kansas City. After graduation she moved to California to be a model, but then shortly after had to come back home when her mother fell sick and passed away.
Soon after moving back to Missouri she met and fell in love with her husband William Karriker, Sr. They married and had three beautiful children, William Jr., Kimberly Lynn, and Vinita Marie. While raising the three kids Mary worked as an accountant for many years. In their free time Mary and Bill loved to spend time at the Elks Lodge, where Bill was a lifetime member. They also were in a bowling league for many years, and were a part of the Turners German Social Club.
Mary had many hobbies that included sewing, crocheting rosary’s for her to donate to churches, sea shell collecting, teaching ceramic classes and spending as much of her time with her grandkids as she could. She loved sewing so much that she would sew her grandchildrens names and monograms on any material she could get her hands on.
After retirement Mary and Bill loved to travel, they had a home in Naples Florida that they would visit during the cold Missouri winters. They enjoyed their time tanning on the beach and collecting sea shells. After their winter in the heat they would travel to Texas to visit their daughter Kim and their grandkids before completing the round trip back to Missouri in the spring.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings as well as her husband Bill, her son-in-law David Hugunin, and one great-grandchild Jade Karriker. She leaves behind her three children and her grandchildren, Kelly, Brenda, Grant, Jack, Hunter, Bishop, Sawyer, Joseph, Katie, Andrew and Julia. As well as her great-grandchildren, Shane, Jace, Lu, Sophia and Jameson.
A Visitation for Mary will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mt Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery South. There will be a Reception to follow from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
