Mary was born on October 25th, 1942 in Verona, Missouri to Henry and Elena Pruente. Mary was the 9th of 12 children. After graduating high school she moved to Kansas City where she met the love of her life, Chuck Hunter. They were married in 1964 and spent 49 years together until Chuck’s passing in 2014.
They were blessed with two children together; Jeff and Pam.
She spent 50 years working in Downtown Kansas City as a secretary for bankers and lawyers. She retired in May of 2009. Mary was an avid Scrabble and Wii bowling player. She loved spending weekends with family and friends at the Lake of the Ozarks and Kansas Speedway, where they had season tickets for 9 years. In recent years, Mary enjoyed playing Bingo with friends. Mary was a huge Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. She was able to attend a few games, including a Royals’ World Series game.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Elena. Husband Chuck; siblings Anna, Dorothy, Gladys, Bobbi, Jeannie, Bill, Jim and Nancy. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Jeff Hunter, Pam (Jeff) Wilson and Charlesa (Eldon) McBride; grandchildren Samantha Hunter, Kortni Moll, Sarah (Lonnie) Smith, Chris (Tiffany) Ellis, Danielle (Jesse) Collins, Chris (Mandy) Wilson, Meghan Wilson; siblings Norma (Gary) Wheeler, Vera Armstrong, and Charlie (Debbie) Pruente.
A celebration of life for Mary will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
