Mary Jeanne Holmes, 85, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Visitation will be held Friday, April 12th, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 13th, 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO, with private burial following in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), No. 3, Corporate Woods, 8700 Indian Creek Parkway, Overland Park, KS, 66210.
Jeanne was born in St. Louis, MO. She moved with her husband to Hannibal and Springfield before settling in Kansas City in 1969. She earned a degree in Biology with honors from Fontbonne University in Clayton, MO where she excelled in varsity sports as well as studies. Jeanne was employed as a Histological Technician for several years at medical laboratories in St. Louis and Hannibal.
Jeanne was active in St. Thomas More Parish where she especially enjoyed working with her husband to host a number of trips and activities for the More Friends retirement group. She also dedicated over 35 years of regular Volunteer Services to St. Joseph Medical Center.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Brian. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, of 62 years; daughter, Kathy Petrie and husband, Jim of Overland Park, KS; and grandson, Jeff.
