Mary Frederica (Reynolds) Grant, 93, Kansas City North, passed December 20, 2014 at New Mark Care Center. The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th St, Kansas City, MO with Fr. Philip Egan officiating; burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 AM Saturday at the Church. Memorials may be given to Crossroads Hospice or Holy Family Catholic Worker House.
Mary was born July 4, 1921 to Joseph O’Connell Reynolds and Frederica M. (Larcombe) Reynolds in Eaganville, Ontario, Canada. As a small child her family moved to North Carolina where she became a U.S. citizen. On July 10, 1943 she married Gerald J. Grant of Freeport, IL. After he returned from World War II, they moved to Freeport where they raised their five children. She enjoyed sewing her children’s clothes, home decorating, artwork, Halloween costume designing, crafts, cake decorating for her children’s birthdays, floral arranging, gardening, travel, walking and bowling. For many years Mary was an election judge in Freeport and Kansas City. She had previously worked as a bookkeeper for A&P Supermarkets and in the J.C. Penney catalog department for several years. In 1976 she and Gerry moved to Mission, KS where they became residential managers of Lamar Place Apartments. Upon retirement they donated 10 years of caring for the grounds of Holy Family Catholic Church. They also served meals at the Holy Family Catholic Worker House and picked-up and delivered bread to meal sites. For their many years of acts of love to their church and community they received the Bishop’s Recognition Award.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Gerald; 4 children, Frederica (Tony) Trunkel, Mesa, AZ, Barbara Ehlers, Kansas City, MO, Claudia Grant, Westmont, IL, Bill (Gayle Bennett-Grant) Grant, Parkville, MO; daughter-in-law, Vanessa Grant- Nauman, San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Mongoven, St Paul, MN; and nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Annette and a son, Patrick Anthony (Arr.’s: McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, MO 64119)
