The oldest of four children, Mary Lou was born May 18, 1932 in Winfield, Cowley County,
Kansas to Harold Thorton Bowman and Laura Moss Hardin Bowman.
In Kansas she attended Ashland Grace School and East High School. In high school she
learned how to cook and sew. She transferred to Kansas City College and Bible School in
Overland Park, Kansas in her freshman year of college.
On December 11, 1950 she married Kenneth Charles Dedrick in Kansas City, Missouri.
After they were married Ken joined the Air Force, and they moved to San Antonio, Texas. After
two years, Mary Lou moved back home to live with her parents while Ken served in the Korean
War.
Mary Lou had various office jobs at England Air Force Base in Louisiana, Allstate Insurance,
and Western Electric. Mary Lou and Ken owned a hardware business in Tulsa, Oklahoma for
two years before moving back to Denver, where she worked at Sunstrand for 10 years.
In 1989, the Dedricks moved to Phoenix and lived in Paradise Resort for four years before
buying a house in Sun City, Arizona.
Mary Lou enjoyed sewing, playing piano and organ, painting, ceramics, cooking, and traveling.
She is survived by her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Rummerfield, her brother Harold (Bud) T.
Bowman and wife Cecilia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Charles
Dedrick, her parents Harold T. Bowman Sr. and Laura Moss Hardin, and her brother, Ronald
Eugene Bowman.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Friday, March 17, 2023 at Surprise Care Funeral Home (16063 W Bell Rd. Surprise, AZ 85374).
A second visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Floral Hills Funeral Home (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133). The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am followed by a graveside committal service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens (Same Address).
