Mary Emily Nestor Casey

We mourn the passing of Mary Emily Nestor Casey on February 5, 2016. Mary Emily was born to Dorothy and the late, great Jack T. Nestor on March 6, 1950. She was a lifelong Kansas City resident, proud of her family, her Irish heritage, Concord Block, and her Visitation Church and School roots.

Mary received a Master’s in Educational Administration from UMKC. The majority of her vocation was at Visitation Catholic Grade School where she was an inspirational teacher and administrator who touched many lives with her passion, friendship and humor. Her greatest loves were her children and husband of 43 years, Ben Casey. Ask Mary her greatest achievement and the immediate reply was always her three children and eight grandchildren.

From Mary’s days in the classroom, to working with peers, rearing children, hosting parties, all things CHIEFS, soaking up the rays of sun at the family cabin, attending rock ‘n roll concerts, loving fine arts and literature, to gardening and sewing, Mary performed all with zest and delight.

Survivors include her husband, Ben C. Casey, son, Michael (Sarah), son, Patrick (Jenny), daughter Colleen Schmidt (Paul) and eight grandchildren, Thomas, Abraham, Violet, Lola, Evelyn, Rosemary, Charlie and Cecilia, her mother, Dorothy Sipp Nestor, brother, John Nestor, sisters, Jeanne (Pat) Crawford, Nancy (Michael) Hand, and Colleen (Sam) Enna and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers from Kansas City Hospice and “Home Instead”, and friends for their love and support, especially the Visitation Community.

The visitation will be Monday, February 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 9, at 10 a.m. Both services will be held at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main Street, Kansas City, MO.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visitation School Art Department. Until we meet again, Mom. Dance the night away. We love you!
