Mary Anna Bryant was born in Knob Noster, Missouri on July 17, 1925. She was the youngest of nine children of Joe and Zella Mae Calvert. She was preceded in death by both parents, four sisters, Geneva, Lorena, Josephine, and Florence. Four brothers, Virgil (died at birth), Homer, Lawrence, and Edgar.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Knob Noster. She graduated from the historically black Howard High School in Warrensburg, Missouri where she was valedictorian.
After high school she moved to Kansas City to live with her sister Josephine. In June 1944 she married Bernard Bryant, who preceded her in death. To this union three children were born.
She loved to travel, whether in the air or on the highway. She loved all kinds of music, but Gladys Knight was her favorite! She loved sports, both on television and in person when her mobility allowed.
She is survived by three children, Richard B. Bryant (Sandra) of Southfield, Michigan, Bernadette Jordan and Derek Bryant of Kansas City. Three granddaughters, Mardae and Marla Jo Bryant of Kansas City, and Nikki (Tirus) McClure of Atlanta, Georgia. Three grandsons, Duan Bryant (Christa), Bernard Bryant (Beverly) of Kansas City, and Richard R. Bryant (Tamara) of Germantown, Maryland. Thirty four great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren (four on the way!) and a HOST of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
