Martin Spalding Buckman, 95, Kansas City North, passed August 29, 2014. The Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 2nd at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6 PM Monday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM. Contributions are suggested in honor of Martin’s wife, Helen, to the Alzheimer’s Assoc.
Martin was born March 31, 1919 in Shelbina, MO to Alfred and Alice (Gilchrist) Buckman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Philippines during World War II. Martin married Helen Elizabeth Himmelberg on April 28, 1947 in Glasgow, MO. He worked as a grain merchandizer for Farmland Industries. He was a 60 year member of St Charles Parish and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents Alfred and Dee; and sister, Mary Schulte.
Survivors include sisters, Josephine Williams and Emma Lou Dimmitt; children, Susan Williams, Mark Buckman, Fred Buckman and Mary Curts; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
