Martha Sue Spencer was born on November 28, 1939 to parents Martha and Tony Callies. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School and attended The University of Kansas. She went to work as a hostess/flight attendant for Braniff Airlines. On October 15, 1960, she married the love of her life, Tom Spencer and they had recently celebrated their 60 year wedding anniversary.
She was a Clipped B for Braniff Airlines and was active in the KC Young Matrons where she met many of her best life friends. Her volunteer spirit was a gift to area hospitals including Saint Joseph/Carondelet Health. She was an avid golfer who enjoyed competition and playing golf at Blue Hills Country Club where she had a hole in one. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Her faith was unshakable and her prayers for family and friends were an important part of her daily life.
Her greatest joy was raising her two sons, Brett Spencer (Ann) and Blake Spencer (Monique) and spending countless hours encouraging, loving and attending the activities of her 5 grandchildren. Torry, Emma, Chloe, Jack and Reese.
Her favorite sayings were: “this too shall pass”; “I love you a bushel and a peck”; and “you are always in my heart”.
She will always be in our heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her 2 sons and 5 grandchildren.
