At the age of 21, Marie left Valley Star farm to go to San Diego, California where she worked at Convair Air Manufacturer during the war years. There she met the love of her life, a next door neighbor, Leonard R. Robinson from Brookfield, Missouri. In the summer of 1945, they returned to the Midwest where they married October 27th, 1945 in New Vienna, Iowa and later settled in Kansas City. Leonard and Marie were married until Leonard’s death, October 26, 2005.
Marie was a homemaker and mother of six until 1965 when she began work with the NKC School District in food service. She took great pride as manager for Oakwood Elementary, all the teachers enjoyed her cooking. Marie was also known for her pastry skills, often making pies for events at church and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary where she was a member of both for many years. She also was an excellent seamstress, and in her retirement made children’s dresses for girls in Africa.
Marie and Leonard retired in 1981, enjoyed traveling in their camper and eventually bought a place in Harlingen, Texas. They wintered in Harlingen with friends and family, enjoying dancing, golfing, playing cards and living the good life.
Marie is survived by her children Patrice (Paul) Priestley, Kansas City, MO; Janet Pape-Keller, San Francisco, CA; Lee (Joan) Robinson, Scottsdale, AZ; Terry Robinson, Kansas City, MO, Ann (Jim) Pozin, Weatherby Lake, MO; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her son, Dennis; her parents, Louis and Josephine Pape; her 10 brothers and sisters and in-laws, Pauline, William (Genevieve), Josephine (Peter Graff), Rose (Edmund Kirsch), Lewis (Bernice), Bernard (Carolyn), Herbert (Margaret), Richard (Ruth) Arthur (Evelyn) and Rita (Robert Rosacker) and son-in laws G. Wayne Keller and Chris Loveall.
Marie was a friend to many and loved to entertain. She will be missed greatly by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
The family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice and Sisters Servants of Mary for the loving care they provided.
A visitation is scheduled on Thursday 6-7 pm, at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd., with rosary preceding at 5:30pm.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday May 12th, 10:30 am at St Charles Borromeo Church, 900 NE Shady Lane Drive, Kansas City, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery, 5001 NE Cookingham Drive, Kansas City, MO. The family invites friends to lunch following at the church in Borromeo hall.
