Marie J. Lindquist Potter was born on January 31, 1930 to Genevieve and Thomas R. Zimmerman in Kansas City, MO. The second of four children, she was preceded in life by John Zimmerman and Kathleen Roberts. She is survived by her youngest sister, Linda Galloway.
Marie married August Nathaniel Lindquist, Jr. in 1948. Together, they had seven children: Sherryl (Tom) Schultz, Pamela Carter (Rick) Pistorius, David (Marjean) Lindquist, Carol (John) Coffelt, John (Ginna) Lindquist, Kenneth Lindquist and Kimberly (Scott) Stanley. Nathaniel passed away on May 9, 1977. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She is survived by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She found love again and married Thomas J. Potter on September 22, 1995. Tom passed away January 6, 2006. They enjoyed traveling and socializing with their many friends. Marie enjoyed garage sales and auctions and was always ready to go to a big sale with her daughters. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever she could. One of her favorite stories (she never grew tired of telling it) was of getting onstage with Engelbert Humperdinck in Las Vegas and getting a kiss from him. A woman with a keen sense of humor, Marie was always the life of the party and her personality was contagious. Marie had a soft spot for rescue dogs and enjoyed fostering them with her son, Kenneth. She was a matriarch in every sense of the word and will be missed dearly by her friends and family.
Marie passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022 in Lenexa, KS. The Service will be held on Wednesday, December 14 at 1pm at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home in the South Chapel. The funeral home is located at 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO. A light lunch will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Plains SPCA Pet Adoption Center.
