Maria was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2022. Maria passed away at her home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Maria was born on June 14, 1941, in Big Spring, Texas to her father Pedro Leopoldo Martinez and her Mother Guadalupe (Lupita) Rivas.
Maria was married to her first love, and forever husband, Daniel Vegas Salas in San Antonio, Texas in 1956. He passed away two years ago almost to the day Wednesday, September 22 2020. She is survived by her seven (7) children, Moses, Isaac, Noah, Jimmy, Abram, Israel and the one and only daughter and baby sis Ruth. Also 15 grandchildren and many grandchildren.
Maria had been battling diabetes among other illnesses for many years, and about 13 years or so ago started dialysis. Maria was always a fighter, a trooper, and refused to give in to her many illnesses especially the diabetes, but after a long valiant battle, her angel wings were finally given to her so that she could be with her loving husband (Daniel) in heaven.
Maria was truly a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and of course Great-grandmother, her many hobbies and passions were cooking, some of her famous recipes that have now been passed down to the children were her hot tamales, menudo, potatoes made with her famous salsa and many other delicious dishes.
She loved doing crossword puzzles, word puzzles, coloring, sewing, knitting and making cloths, blankets, pillow cases, etc. She was truly amazing, energetic, talented in her own ways and always so full of love. Her favorite color was purple, her favorite movies were always “Gone with the Wind” and “The Wizard of Oz” and anything Disney. I remember her always saying one day, "I’m going to Disneyland and see the real Snow White."
Maria will always be remembered for her big beautiful heart, by her warmth, caring, and truly unconditional love for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, her number one passion was the family, no matter what, family always came first. Even with her illness and all her many years of constant hospital stays, she was always there for her family and all her children. She will truly always be remembered for such a big, loving heart, and unconditional love, and of course the big, sweet, beautiful smile she would always give you as soon as she saw you.
