Margaret T. Power

Margaret Power, 81, Gladstone, MO, passed away February 16, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 20th, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Mo. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, 5001 NE Cookingham Rd, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19th, at McGilley Antioch Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to St. Charles Catholic Church, St. Andrew Catholic Church, St. Pius X High School or NorthCare Hospice.

Margaret was born the sixth of eight girls to Patrick Davitt and Bridget Barrett in Bourhave, Bellmullet, County Mayo, Ireland. Margaret immigrated to Chicago, IL, in 1950. Five of her sisters, Mary Toole, Rose Hawkins, Helen Moran, Nora Davitt, and Celia Ruddy, also immigrated to Chicago. Two sisters, Bridget Lynsky and Annie Reilly, remained in Ireland. Her only brother, Anthony, died as an infant. Margaret married the love of her life, John, in 1960 in Chicago, IL. John & Margaret were transferred later that year to Kansas City, MO.

Margaret raised her three children. While her kids were older, she managed the Scandia Village Apartment complex for 15 years. Margaret’s proudest accomplishments were her marriage of 52 years and her three children. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary, Rosie and Bridget. Survivors include her husband, John; her three children; Michael and wife Donna, Patrick and wife Emily, Maureen and husband Paul; sisters: Annie, Helen, Nora, and Celia; and seven grandchildren: Sean, Lauren, Drew, Daniel, Eric, Megan, and Michael. Margaret loved her family and friends. She was happiest being around all members of her friends and family..
