She was born April 27, 1935, to Clarence and Margaret MacKenzie, the eldest of their four children. Following graduation from Shawnee Mission High School, Peggy attended the University of Kansas, where she met Larry Murphy. They were married in October 1957 and traveled extensively during their twenty years together. They adopted two children and later divorced. Peggy's time overseas sparked a lifelong love of travel and learning. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Peggy’s work-life involved serving others, primarily in insurance, but also through her work at the local community center. She was beloved by her many friends, several of whom she’d known since they were in grade school together. Peggy had a keen sense of humor and a laugh that identified her from clear across a crowded room. She was always genuine and warm; and her smile will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Catherine Lutz (Craig); her granddaughter, Chelsea Aylesworth (Braden); and by her great-grandson, Cooper. Also surviving are her brother, Robert MacKenzie; sister, Marian Sinnett (Bud); two nieces; and a nephew.
She is preceded in death by her son, Douglas Murphy; sister, Nancy Roskoski; and parents, Clarence and Margaret MacKenzie.
Graveside services will be Saturday January 7, 2023 at 3:00pm at Newcomers Floral Hills Cemetery with a celebration of Peggy’s life to follow at 5:00pm at the Four Colonies Clubhouse in Lenexa, KS.
