Margaret slipped peacefully into the arms of God in the early morning hours of February 4, 2017. She was surrounded by members of her family and the amazing Sisters and staff of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Margaret or “Marwees” as she was called by her family was born March 19th 1922 in Washington DC, and raised along the Jersey shore in Interlaken/Asbury Park, New Jersey. During and after WW II Margaret worked for the Navel Department, where she came in contact with many young service men, but it was a snappy Marine named Eugene Amey, from Kansas City that won her heart. They met at a USO dance in New York City, where they were crowned king and queen of the dance. They were married on September 16, 1950, and spent the next 50 years together raising four sons. Margaret and Gene were dedicated members of Nativity Parish in Independence, MO beginning in 1961. Together they were very involved in the Charismatic Renewal Group, as it became their passion and social circle of strong faith filled friends for over 20 years. They counted as one of their most memorable moments attending the Mass by Pope John Paul II in St. Louis. Together they moved to Little Sister in 1998.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Isaiah Matlack, her brother, Robert I. Matlack, and her husband, Eugene Amey. Her sister Ethel Marie Rizzoli, of Sacramento, CA survives. She is also survived by her sons and their wives, Kevin and Mig, Tim and Gayle, Jeff and Anna, Paul and Renee; her grandchildren Luke, Patrick (Lauren), Nick, Clare Molly, Adam, Brianna (Ian Farrell), Nicole (Guy Trease), Danielle, Nick, Alexandria, Jacob, Samantha; and her great grandchildren, Emma, Lucy, Waylon, Walker, Herschel, and William.
We wish to thank and honor all who work and reside at Little Sisters of the Poor. We appreciate all the love and care shown to Margaret and her family, and we invite you to honor the Sisters with your memorial contributions for the wonderful care they show our community every day, for so many decades in Kansas City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 11. at Little Sisters of the Poor Chapel, 8745 James A. Reed Rd, Raytown Mo. 64138. Visitation begins at 9am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30.
