Marc N. Murdock, 84, legendary patriarch of the rather sizable Murdock clan, passed away Saturday evening, September 22, 2012 at home surrounded by his children. Marc was born January 7, 1928 in Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Millicent, his younger brother, Neil, and two of his sons, Brian and Philip.
Marc taught advanced mathematics at Rockhurst High School for 27 years, after graduating from Rockhurst College. Marc scared the quadratic equation into hundreds, even thousands, of young men and is remembered for his remarkable sense of humor, his active and inquisitive mind, his Banlon shirts, and his devotion to his large family. His family will miss his deep chuckle, his many story-worthy quirks, and trying to de-code his sayings. His passing also marks the loss of one of the NCFI's most dedicated head coaches as well as a founding member of the CFM syndicate.
Even after his retirement from teaching, Marc held several jobs, from dispatching for a quick messenger service to delivering Meals on Wheels to retrieval of scientific information at Linda Hall Library. And until just the last 10 years or so, he could be found almost every afternoon running at the UMKC track.
Marc is survived by his daughters, Marcia (Marty), Marilyn (Rick), Kathy, Paula and Monica, and his sons, Kevin (Debbie), Terry (Diane), Larry (Denise), Carl (Allison), and David (Cathy) as well as 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, Pic (Kathleen). The family will meet at St. Francis Xavier Church, 5200 Troost on Saturday, October 6 at Noon for visiting, followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations in his memory to Operation Breakthrough or Kansas City Hospice.
