Lyndell “Lynn” Manning Paxson was born in Dallas, Texas and always loved her “hometown,” although she lived much of her life in Kansas City, where she died Monday October 8, 2012. Lynn considered writing to be her special gift. She enjoyed a long and happy career in advertising and marketing, including teaching marketing part time at Avila University for several years. Prior to becoming a partner in her own advertising/public relations firm, she served as copy editor for Valentine Radford Advertising and creative director for Christenson, Barclay and Shaw. Right out of college, she worked briefly as a promotion writer with KMBC-TV. Later in her career, she served as senior editor in the Keepsake Ornaments department at Hallmark Cards, Inc. She graduated from Southwest High School and received a BS degree in journalism from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and an MBA from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a member of Women in Communications, and was twice elected to National Vice President/Finance of that organization. She served on the National Board of Directors of the Hospitalized Veterans Writing Project for twenty years. She was a Matrix honoree. She belonged to Delta Gamma Fraternity, as well as Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. She leaves 13 much loved nieces and nephews: Margaret Anne Lewis Cowart, Allison Greer Walker, and Ronald R. Vaughn III; Diana Lynn Lewis Smith, Megan Landry Smith, and Travis David Smith; Laurie Phelps Brewer, LeeAnn Phelps Scott, Travis Scott and Casey Lynn Peppers; Jim Tom Phelps, Jr., Felicia Phelps and Dylan Phelps. She also leaves many kind and wonderful friends, especially Rikki Lewis and Virginia Taylor. Those three exemplified the sorority saying, “Fate made us sisters, but love made us friends.” They weathered life’s joys and sorrows together for over 60 years of friendship. Other special KC friends include Ginzy Schaefer, Tina Hacker, Sharon Smith, Marilyn Ebersole and Grace Ramsey. We thank the skilled nursing unit at Brighton Gardens for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers or a monetary donation, please do a good deed or extend a kindness to others. She would like that. A celebration of life service will be held at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village Kansas at 4:00 p.m., (TODAY) Thursday, October 11th. Private burial. Condolences may be offered at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com.
