Louis A. Monley, 91, of Independence, MO passed away on Sat., September 1, 2012 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. On Sat., September 29th a gathering will be held at 10AM with a funeral mass following at 11AM at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church (10010 E. 40HWY), where he was a member for over 50 years. A Celebration of Life will follow the mass at V’s Italiano Ristorante (10819 E. 40HWY). Louis was born in Winfield, KS on May 5, 1921 & graduated from Ward High School in KCKS in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 27, 1942 & served thru Dec. 17, 1942 while becoming a Second Lieutenant as a pilot. The next day he began serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Louis piloted a torpedo bomber plane in Marine Torpedo Bomber Squadron 131 in the Pacific Theatre where he received an Air Medal in action against Japanese forces in the Ryukyu Islands area in 1945. He remained on active duty until Feb. 1946. Louis continued in the Marine Reserves until 1958; retiring with a rank of Captain. He was a long-time member of the VFW. Louis was employed by both the Independence Water Dept. as a Plant Operator & by the City of Independence Health Dept. Louis was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne in 1973 & their daughter, Kathleen in 1963; as well as his second wife, Jane Eimer in 2009. Louis is survived by his four sons, Stuart Monley, Michael Monley (Regina), Donald Monley (Sherry) & Christopher Monley; three step-sons, John Eimer (Barb), Vincent Eimer & Kevin Eimer (Bev); a daughter, Maureen Coday (Gerard); two step-daughters, Linda Fishel (Alan) & Debbie Page (Jerry); one sister, Anita Strumillo (William); numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren who knew him as “Grampa Lou.” In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Veteran’s Assistance League, 1300 Veteran’s Dr., Warrensburg, MO 64093.
