Louis Medina, Jr., born October 24th, 1935 and lifelong resident of the Westside in Kansas City, MO, died on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 surrounded by his wife and family. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where he served as President of the Men’s Organization, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish where he assisted the parish in many roles. He was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Louis was preceded in death by his daughters, Karen Leonor and Leslie Bernadette; parents, Luis Medina, Sr. and Leonor; sisters, Rita, Maria Leonor “Nori”, Mary Mercedes (Mora), and most recently, his brother, Rafael “Kingpin”.
Louis was employed through the city of KCMO as a traffic electrical engineer for 26 years and was a Veteran of the United States Army. After retirement, his family became his hobby. He enjoyed many Royals games, traveling to his favorite city, San Antonio, planning and attending family reunions, hosting Sunday family dinners, chatting one-on-one with each of his grandchildren and great-granddaughter, and watching his favorite Westerns.
Louis leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Anita; and their surviving daughters, Rita Medina, Mary Turano, Rachel Rios (Richard Michael), and Elaine Garcia (Robert); and grandchildren Jason Roll, Tyler Atterbury, Dominic Turano (Rachel); Salvador, Macy, Samuel, and Madeline Rios; Emilio, Bianca, Vincent, and Leila Garcia; and great-granddaughter, Elliott Roll; brothers, Robert Medina (Rosemary), Manuel Medina (Rachel), Lupe Aguilar; brother-in-law, Henry Mora; sister-in-law, Shirley Medina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. (Rosary at 7 p.m.) on Monday, May 15th at Sacred Heart-Guadalupe Church, 2544 Madison Kansas City, MO, and 9-9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16th at the church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO. A lunch reception will be held after burial at Sacred Heart-Guadalupe Hall. Condolences may be offered at www.mcgilleymidtownchapel.com.
The family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to our extended family, friends, and neighbors for their support through gifts, calls, meals and visits throughout these last several years of Louis’ courageous battle with cancer. We would also like to give special thanks to Fr. Luis Suarez for spiritual help and guidance to Louis and the family.

Daddy, our next trip to San Antonio will not be the same without you but as you requested, we will enjoy the Riverwalk and feel your presence all around. We promise to always take care of Mama and each other. Love, your girls.
