

Louis E. Kurz, 85, of Leawood, KS passed away Friday, June 7, 2013 in Overland Park, Kansas. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri 64113 in the Combs Chapel. Immediately following services, burial to take place in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Lou was born December 6, 1927 in Amazonia, Missouri to Elmer & Erna Kurz. After graduating from Lafayette High School, he joined the U.S. Army Signal Corps and served in Tokyo, Japan. In 1947, Lou returned stateside to St. Joseph, Missouri, where he attended Gards Business College. It was during this time Lou met the love of his life, Naomi, whom he married in 1951.
Throughout his 37-year career with The Quaker Oats Company, Lou was able to serve in many major cities across the U.S. When not working, Lou loved spending time with his family and friends, gardening, golfing, and reading; he especially enjoyed reading his Bible and related material. Lou was a member of Country Club Christian Church and served as both a Deacon and Elder.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pastor A. Vernon Kurz; and sister, Virginia (Kurz) Reardon. He is survived by his wife, Naomi; son, Mike Kurz (Dixie); daughters, Lora Peaco, Sue McClure (Alan), and Rebecca Kurz--all of the Kansas City area; brother, Irvin Kurz of St. Joseph, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Lillian Witt of Kansas City, Missouri, and Ruthanne Kurz of Longmont, Colorado; 8 grandchildren: Jonathan and Lisa Peaco; James, Danny, and Bryan Kurz; Charles, Grant, and Austin McClure. Lou is also survived by his nephew and many nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
