Louis (Phil) Celliti, 89, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at St. Joseph Medical Center, surrounded by his family, after a period of declining health. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 29th, 10:30 a.m., at Church of the Nativity, 3800 West 119th, Leawood, KS. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., one hour prior to the mass. Phil was the husband of Dorothy E. Cellitti. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. He and his brother Raymond A. Cellitti (deceased) were the only sons of Marie and Anthony Cellitti, both deceased. He was a World War II Veteran, enlisting in the service after high school graduation in 1942. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corp, 405 Fighter Squadron in France and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war he returned to the U.S. and graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Business. He was indeed part of "America's Greatest Generation." Phil was an outstanding athlete in his youth and well known for his ability in softball played with a 16" ball. He worked for Great American Insurance Company for 34 years before retiring in 1981. Phil is survived by his wife Dorothy and five children; Mariella Tefft (John), Robert Cellitti (Nancy), Phyllis McEntire (Michael), Diane Monroe and Anthony Cellitti (Janet). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Phil will be remembered for many things, especially for his generosity and sense of humor.
