She was born at Iowa Methodist Hospital and grew up in Des Moines, IA with her parents, Gloria and Edward, her two older brothers, Scott and Brent, and later her great-grandmother, Gran. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and the University of Kansas, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music.
In her early twenties, she moved to Kansas City, married and had two children, Kate and Shannon. For over thirty years, she was second chair violin in the Kansas City Civic Orchestra and was a member of the Harvest String Quartet. In recent years, she was a private violin teacher to dozens of students in the Overland Park area where she lived. She was a beloved grandmother to Shannon’s daughter, Shelby, and Kate’s daughter, Alma. Lisa was also a loyal friend; many of her closest relationships were with childhood, high school and college friends.
She was gifted at making friends wherever she went and was beloved by staff and residents in the final place she called home, Homestead of Overland Park Assisted Living. She is survived by her brothers, her daughters, her granddaughters, and all who loved her.
A memorial service honoring Lisa’s life will take place at McGilley State Line Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 18th, 2025 at 2:00pm. Donations in honor of Lisa may be directed to the Kansas City Civic Orchestra or the Youth Symphony of Kansas City.
