Lily Betty Hayter, 95, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at St. John's Mercy Villa. She was born September 23, 1914 in Racine, WisconsinI to Alexander and Anna (Deutch) Checkla. Lily became a registered pharmacist upon graduation from the University of Kansas at Lawrence in 1937, and subsequently worked at KU Medical Center and Research Hospital in Kansas City, and various retail pharmacies. She was a volunteer for many years at Memorial Community Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri. Lily and William Dean Hayter, Polo, Missouri where married on July 3, 1948 in Lawrence, Kansas and raised four children. Her husband passed away on January 26, 2009 in Springfiled, Missouri and she was also preceeded in death by her youngest daughter, Kimberly Ann Kempker, Columbia, Missouri and her parents. Lily is survived by her brother, Mark M. Checkla, Des Moines, Iowa, son William A. Hayter (Carol), Fleming Island, Florida son John R. Hayter (Elizabeth), Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services and internment will be on Wednesday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation to a preferred hospice or other charitable organization.
