Leon was born on July 19, 1941 to JB and Mary Harper in Doddsville, Mississippi. He was number five of six children. He was preceded in death by both parents and siblings Mary Joyner, Arthur Harper, Jesse James, John Harper and Willie B. Harper.
Leon accepted Christ at an early age at the Ward Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Scott, Mississippi, under the leadership of the late Reverend William Tucker.
Leon was educated in the Mississippi School System. He later married Willie Lois O’Reilly. Soon after the marriage dissolved and they continued to co-parent their two wonderful sons Calvin and Melvin.
He was the top detailer at Thoroughbred Ford until his retirement. The next phase in his life came with maintenance at the Genesis School and then the IRS.
He leaves to cherish his memory two loving and devoted sons, Calvin (DeAnna) O'Reilly and Melvin (Myra) O'Reilly, grandchildren, Brandon, Travis, Alexis, Tyler, Jasmine, Raymond, Christopher, Sebastian, Sienna and Migel and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members & friends.
A visitation for Leon will be held Monday, December 10, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
A funeral service will occur Monday, December 10, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at the funeral home. This will be followed by a committal service at the graveside in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
