Lena Belle Smith

Lena was born in Bexar, Arkansas on November 26, 1927. After graduating High School, she moved to Kansas City and married Cecil Smith and they remained happily married until his death in 2003. She worked in retail and then at the Nazarene Publishing House for many years, retiring from there. She and Cecil spent their “Golden Years” together wintering in Florida and the rest of the year enjoying their friends and family, especially their grandchildren.

Lena loved her church, cooking, sewing, reading and spending time with her family. For her, Sunday didn’t feel right unless she went to church and then prepared a delicious meal for her family. She loved making pies, cakes, and cookies to share with her family, friends and neighbors. She was also an accomplished seamstress and in addition to making clothes for herself, her children and grandchildren, she made beautiful quilts.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Cecil Smith, son: Neal Smith, parents: James Sears and Mary Ellen Scott Sears, brothers: Carrol Sears and James Haskell Sears, and sisters: Latain Gilstrap, Allene Clayton and Vonda Sanders. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Kirn (Joe), daughter-in-law, Penny Smith, grandchildren: Ali Weaver (Larry), Nicholas Smith (Claire), Ryan Smith, Nicole Cray (Travis), DJ Kirn (Mandy) and Victor Wagner, 9 great-grand children, 2 great-great grandchildren, sisters Velta Bales and Georgia Perryman and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday 8/2/2024 from 6:00pm -8:00pm at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Saturday 8/3/2024 at Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene with burial to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery.
