Lawrence Walter, 90, Kansas City, passed away on February 8, 2017 at Northland Hospice House from congestive heart failure.
Lawrence Walter was born April 14, 1926 in Centertown, MO. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his service, he returned to the Sedalia area, where he met and married Dorothy Jewel Galloway on September 17, 1949. They moved to Kansas City where they raised their three children and enjoyed 49 years of marriage before her death.
Lawrence worked in air freight trucking for Air Cargo Terminals and Jet Delivery prior to his retirement in 1988. He and Dorothy volunteered countless hours at Tri-County Mental Health Day Program and were recognized for their commitment and dedication to the mental health community. Lawrence delighted in spending time with his family, fellowship with friends and neighbors, and being outdoors with his beloved dogs. Affectionately known as “Punky” to family and friends, his bright smile, big dimples, and acts of kindness touched the lives of many.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy (Galloway); son, David Walter; and daughter, Linda Parman, and many of his siblings. He leaves behind his son, Mark (Carol) Walter; son-in-law, John Parman; sisters, Gladys Palmer and Minnie Beemer; grandchildren, Jennifer Glover, Mitchell (Stephanie) Parman, and Michelle Parman; step-grandchildren; Aaron Jones and Haley Kendall; numerous great-grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Visitation services will be held at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, on Monday, February 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial services immediately follow at Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Tri-County Mental Health Services (www.tri-countymhs.org) and NorthCare Hospice House (www.kchospice.org/nc-support/).
