Larry Rogers

Larry Rogers was born on May 27, 1942. He was the fourth child, and second son of Champ and Helen Rogers. He spent his early years in West Plains, Missouri before moving to Kansas City with his family. He went to Center High School where he graduated in 1961.

Larry went on to serve in the United States Army. He was then deployed to Vietnam. He reached the rank of Sargent. During his deployment, he received numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star and the Silver Star.

Larry enjoyed riding motorcycles. He took several trips with friends across the country. They visited places such as Colorado, Utah, the Dakotas, Washington D.C. and many other places. He also loved fishing and restoring vintage cars back to their glory. He had a 1958 Chevy Impala that he restored from the ground up. It won several car shows and numerous awards. He always joked that the car didn't give him as much trouble as his daughter Kayla. He would trade her and keep the car! Larry was a family man. He has one daughter, Kayla. Larry was the kind of dad whose love was unconditional and knew no bounds. When Kayla's mom Linda had two more daughters, Karla and Whitney, he loved them and treated them as his own. He always said he had three girls. From Kayla, he was given a grandson, Derrick, who was his pride and joy. He also has three grandchildren from Whitney: James, Lilly, and Dexter. Those four kids brought him so much love and happiness.

Larry has two sisters, Martha and Venice (Earline). He loved them very much. His sisters gave him two nieces: Paula and Kathy, and six nephews: Mark, Doug, Rick, Todd, Mike and Greg. He also had many great nieces and nephews. There was nothing that he loved more than his family. Larry had many friends, and he never knew a stranger. He was a very kind, generous, loving many who will be missed by many. He was loved by so many.

Larry worked for Marion Laboratories in the maintenance department. He was a very hard worker and retired from there.

After his family, his next great love was his love of the Country. He fought for his country and would have laid down his life for it. His favorite holiday was the Fourth of July. He loved the loud explosions and bright colors of all the fireworks.

A Visitation for Larry will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 AM. A Committal Service and Full Military Honors will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
