Kitty J. DeVera was born to the proud parents of Arthur G. and Kitty M. Porter on August 7, 1925 in Augusta, Arkansas. She had one sibling, Arthur Grainger “Jelly” Porter, Jr. As a teenager she moved to New York City, where she met her future husband, Frank DeVera. Later in life she and her husband moved to Dallas, Texas where upon they started their family. They had two children, Frank Michael and John Vincent. Her most exciting and satisfying career was being a dance instructor, along with her husband at their DeVera Dance Studio in Dallas. In 1965 she and her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she has resided since. Kitty’s lasting legacy and enduring memories she left with family and friends will always be that of a beautiful lady, exceptional conversationalist (oh how she loved to talk), funny and fun to be with, elegant and classy, but with a bit of an edge, and always having a predominantly positive outlook on life-saying concerning problems “that everything would work out for the best”, and lastly her wonderful smile and infectious laughter. She will be truly, truly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband. She is survived by her two sons, Frank and wife Lisa, John and wife Sue; 4 grandchildren, Ashli Jarboe, Evan DeVera, Derek DeVera, and Chaffin DeVera; 1 great grandchild, Ava DeVera-Bills; nieces Patti Kabell, Terry Gregory, Anne Eldridge; and nephew, Arthur Grainger “Buddy” Porter, III. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the American Heart Association.
