Scotty was born on March 16, 1923 in Hancock County, Indiana to Forrest H. and Bertha (Goodwin) Scott. He graduated from Morristown (Indiana) High School in April, 1941. Upon arrival in Kansas City, Missouri, by bus on December 7, 1941, Scotty entered the National School of Aeronautics. After graduation, he worked for the North American Aviation (B25 Bomber Plant) in Fairfax, Kansas City, Kansas.
He volunteered for enlistment in the 315th Bombardment Group, 20th Air Force, U.S. Army on October 28, 1942. Scotty was part of a B-17 Bomber crew. After an honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Kansas City, Missouri and married Laura Frances Seals in June, 1946. Two children were born to this union, Kenneth F. Scott, Jr. (Susan), Clinton, Missouri and A. Richard Scott (Jackie) Kansas City North, Missouri.
Scotty began working for Kansas City Power and Light in January, 1948. He transferred to Clinton, Missouri as a control operator for the new Montrose Plant in 1958, and was promoted to power dispatcher and moved back to Kansas City in 1965. He retired from KCP&L in 1984.
Scotty and Laura acquired his aunt’s cabin in Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills, South Dakota in 1979 and they spent summers there for 26 years, personally completely remodeling the cabin including new floors, foundations, etc. He enjoyed trout fishing there when not working on the cabin.
Scotty was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Raymore, Missouri. He was also long-time member of several masonic bodies including 50-year member and Past Master of Swope Park Lodge No. 617, AF & AM, Past Patron of Adella Chapter, O.E.S. (subsequently consolidated with Josepha #63), and Scottish Rite Of Freemasonry S.J.
Scotty was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Laura Frances, in January, 2016, his parents, and his oldest sister, Mary Margaret Alexander. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Kenneth Scott (Susan), Clinton, MO and A. Richard Scott (Jackie), North Kansas City, Missouri, four grandchildren; Molly Odum (Paul), Overland Park, Kansas, Jamy Dolde (Jason), Kansas City North, Missouri, Christopher Scott (Allison), Raymore, Missouri, and Becky Fleming, Overland Park, Kanas. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Jacob Scott, Zachary Scott, and Issac Scott, Raymore, Missouri, and Ansley Odum of Overland Park, Kansas, and a sister, Opal Driffill, Greenfield, Indiana.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Raymore, Missouri. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church with Masonic services at 10:45 a.m. Burial to follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, Kansas City, Missouri.
