Kelly Lynae Mason, born May 30, 1985, to Dale Mason and Sherri Sutcliffe, passed away peacefully from unspecified natural causes on December 28, 2023 at KU Medical Center surrounded by her family. Kelly was born in Independence, Missouri and graduated in 2003 from Park Hill High School. She attended Central Methodist University, where she studied psychology and finished school in 2007. Kelly spent over 14 years working at The BrewTop Pub and Patio in the Kansas City Metro Area.
Kelly enjoyed spending time with loved ones, fishing, playing cards, traveling, and celebrating life. She was an avid sports fan and was specifically partial to the Royals, Cubs and Chiefs. She loved Elvis, country music, Disney, old movies, and laughing uncontrollably. She worked in the service industry almost her entire life, strictly to bring other people joy and make sure they were taken care of. Kelly was especially selfless and always there for people who needed her. Despite the struggles in her own life, she made sure to keep those around her smiling, and she had a knack for lighting up the whole room. Although most of her jokes weren’t that funny, she continued to tell them, and her laugh alone would cause others around her to join in.
Kelly lived life to the absolute fullest, always being present where her feet were, and she loved making the people around her feel special. She loved hard and uniquely - always inspiring others to do the same. You would never know if you were going to be greeted with a world class hug, slap on the butt, or a finger in the ear. She was an extremely loyal person, which was demonstrated by her dedication to her family, friends, and work. Kelly loved her time at CMU and was very passionate about her sorority, Zeta Psi Lambda, and her extended Greek family. Every place that Kelly ever worked became a part of her family, and she loved them wholeheartedly. She was a mentor for many and a friend to all. She was passionate about people and empathetic to everyone. Kelly was especially proud of all her family’s and friends’ accomplishments over the years and was sure to celebrate everyone.
Kelly is survived by her parents Dale (Kathy) Mason, Sherri Sutcliffe, and Mitch Rupard along with her grandmother Judith Rupard. She is also survived by her siblings Amber (Chad) Jones, Trevor (Molly) Mason, Michele (Skyler) Rupard, Micayla Rupard, Jason (Chantel) Davenport, and Chris Carozza, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, and boyfriend Kyle Smith.
Kelly was preceded in death by grandparents Dale Mason, Lynda Mason, Bill and Alice Yearout, Louise Bloss, Dewey and Edith Cass, and nephew Grady Jones, along with close friends Aaron Butler, Steven Vidauri, and Stephen Murray.
Kelly’s family and friends would like to extend a thank you to the City of Liberty First Responders and the medical staff at both Liberty Hospital and KU Medical Center. Their hard work and professionalism allowed time to say goodbye during this horrific tragedy. The family would also like to extend a thank you to everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.
