Kathleen Lake (O’Sullivan) passed away on Tuesday, April 5th, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City. Katie (as she was known by many) had heart-related illnesses and put up a very strong fight for several years. Katie was born on October 3rd, 1942, in Kansas City, MO. She was a proud graduate of Lillis High School, Class of ’59. She worked for AT&T for more than 20 years until she retired in 1998. Katie also worked for JCPenney at Metro North mall for several years in the 80’s. It was during this time that she got to know many of her life-long friends who she kept in touch with up in to the time of her passing. What Katie loved most was family – she was 411 connect for the O’Sullivan clan long before it existed. There wasn’t anything that Katie wouldn’t or couldn’t do for a family member or friend in need. She enjoyed her research in genealogy and often tracked down family members we never knew we had. Katie was a student of life, and a teacher at the same time. She taught us all many things in her lifetime, but most importantly, she taught us all how to love… unconditionally.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 8th from 5:00-8:00 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rosary at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 AM at the church. Contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret O’Sullivan of Kansas City, her brother, Robert O’Sullivan of Merriam, KS, her husband, Charles (Charlie) Lake of Kansas City, and her granddaughter, Carly Elizabeth Lake. Survivors include her daughter, Susanne Lake of Gladstone, her son, Daniel (Jeannine) Lake of Lee’s Summit, her brother James O’Sullivan of Olathe, her brother William (Lynn) O’Sullivan of Kansas City, and her brother Dennis (Kathy) O’Sullivan of Raymore. Grandma Katie also leaves behind her beloved grandsons Aidan Lake and Liam Lake of Lee’s Summit – they were two of her best buddies who she will continue to protect as their guardian angel in Heaven. Katie also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and “adopted” family members who knew her as Aunt Katie and Gramma Katie. To everyone (from Katie) – Let Go and let God… and Love to ALL…
Thank you to everyone at St. Luke’s for keeping her safe in your care for 36+ years and giving us time to enjoy her life and the woman that she was to and for each of us.
