Katheryn was born in Henrietta, MO to James Thomas & Ida Mae (Bayne) Reid on November 10, 1924. She grew up on the family farm with her 5 sisters and 1 brother, graduating from Henrietta High School in 1942. She married Miles (Jeff) Clifford Henderson in Kansas City and together they had Joyce and Sharon. In addition to being a wife and mother, Katheryn helped her husband establish his business and then went on to work at the KC Credit Bureau, The Encyclopedia Britannica, Coleman American and ultimately retired from KC Machine Mart in 1986. She was preceded in death by her husband Jeff, daughter Joyce (Henderson) Hughes, her parents and siblings, Christine Reid, Ruby Reid, James E Reid, Maxine (Reid) Stimelsky, and Betty (Reid) Montgomery.
Katheryn was very active all her life, loved working in her yard and insisted on cutting her own lawn until she was 90. She was a genius at buying the best gadgets you didn’t know you needed, but once you had them you didn’t know how you lived without them. She found no greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family was the highlight of her life.
Katheryn was loved and will be dearly missed by daughter Sharon (Ken) Watley; son-in-law Robert Hughes; grandchildren Brian (Shana) Watley, Jeff (Carrie) Hughes, Carrie (Todd) Mitchell, Justin Watley; 4 great-grandchildren Halston Watley, Cole Hughes, Payton Hughes, Michael Pickert; a great great grandson, Finnigan Kenneth Orvis, many nieces and nephews and treasured neighbors.
The family wants to thank Seasons Memory Care and One Community Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to suggested organizations.
