Katherine Mary Miller Shepherd

Katherine Mary Miller Shepherd of Kansas City, MO passed away on January 20 2021 due to complications of Covid-19. Katherine (Katie) was born on April 13, 1929 in Kansas City, MO to Edgar L and Margaret H (Schleicher) Kneaves and is the oldest of seven children. She is survived by her siblings, Sr. Kieran Kneaves, Frank (Ginny) Kneaves, and Ed Kneaves. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Cogan, Mary Ruck, and Pat Zubeck.

Katherine married John L. Miller, Sr. on June 18, 1949 in Kansas City, MO. They moved to Prairie Village where they raised 6 boys. Surviving are John (Kathy), Joe, Jim, Bob (Peggy), Steve (Susie); and daughter-in-law, Angie. Her youngest son, Mike, died July 14 2015. In addition to her sons she is survived by her step-children, Melanie Kramer, Linda (Pat) Sullivan, and Jack Shepherd. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Emily Meyer (Mike), Blake Miller, Bret Miller (Tasha), Katie Miller, Maggie Miller, John Miller III, Morgan Miller-Rodriguez (Calix), Bobby Miller, Jr. and Erin Miller; and 2 great-granddaughters, Cadence Meyer and Riley Sue Miller.

After John’s death in 1969, she entered the work force and worked for many years at Electronic Business Systems in downtown Kansas City. Later in life, she re-connected with a childhood friend and married Jack Shepherd June 24 2006. They enjoyed life at Lake of the Ozarks until his passing on December 10, 2009.

Katherine loved sports especially cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.

Katherine was a bright light in the lives of her family. Her kindness and caring will be missed by all who knew her. She taught the loving and caring ways of the Schleicher/Kneaves family to her family. Family was everything to Katherine.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO.
