Kate (Kathleen Mary Elizabeth) Jones

Kate was born in Buffalo, New York on August 15, 1963 to Regina C. Decker and the late Roy W. Decker.

Kate found her passion early in life by serving others, through peer counseling in High School, teaching Montessori school, and serving the Lord through volunteering in churches, shelters, charitable organizations, and in other ways too numerous to count. Above all else, Kate found profound joy in her role as a mom, raising her children.

Kate was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, also working there for three years before serving as the lead pastor of Ives Chapel United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, KS. During her schooling to become a pastor, Kate met and married Daniel Jones on November 12, 2016 in Kansas City, and they made their home in Overland Park, KS.

She enjoyed thrifting to find treasures in what others discarded. When asked why she enjoyed it, she said, “I love to find things that were left and unwanted to make a place for them at home where they could be loved and cared for.”

Kate faced her diagnosis, surgery, radiation, and chemo treatments in the same spirit she lived her life, with hope, determination, and grace. She continued to care for her family and friends with optimism, humor, and love until her last day.

Words cannot convey how much she will be missed. Her love will live on in the hearts and lives of everyone she touched.

She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel; children: Michael (Hannah) Cordes of Grandview, MO, Samuel (Kella) Cordes of Oceanside, CA, Lily Cordes of Colorado Springs, CO, Glenna (Brock) Bult of Oak Grove, MO, and Nathaniel Jones of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Brody and William Bult, mother, Regina Decker of Overland Park, KS, brothers: Michael (Celia) Decker of Punta Gorda, FL, Steven (Diana) Decker of East Aurora, NY, James (Liz) Decker of Edgewater, FL and sister Gina (Brian) Waltmire, of Overland Park, KS.
