Joseph Lewis Madrigal, 70, of Independence, Missouri peacefully passed away from cancer in his home on January 29, 2024. A visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO, with recitation of Holy Rosary at 5pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Cemetery.
Joseph (Joe, Jody, Big Joe) was born the son of Joe P. Madrigal and Helen Madrigal in KCK on April 2, 1953. Joe committed his life to family and friends and epitomized a strong work ethic. He dedicated 28 years to KCPL as a Maintenance Technician and 35 total years setting up and breaking down events as a Banquet Manager at both the Westin Crown Center and KC Downtown Marriott. In his little free time, Joe enjoyed golfing, gardening (even earning title of Yard of the Year), but above all, cherished time spent with family. Joe also held the position as Financial Officer at The American Legion Post 213 for 3 years and served at the St. Mary’s food kitchen every 4th Tuesday.
Joe is preceded in death by his widow, Emma Lou Madrigal of whom he was married 24 years before she also passed from cancer; his father, Joe Pimentel Madrigal, and Emma's father, Manuel Jimenez.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia M. Madrigal; doting mother, Helen Madrigal; Emma’s mother, Sara Jimenez; his children, Joseph M. (Geane), Jacqueline M., and Michael J. Madrigal; stepchildren, Danielle and Mark Franco; grandchildren, Taylor, Dawson, Jaden, Emma, Alejandra, and Kasen Madrigal; step grandchildren, Adaliah, Joel, and Damian Franco; siblings, Steven (Maritza) Madrigal, Michael (Mary Ann) Madrigal, and Anna (Mike) Loyd; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
