The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 AM Saturday, July 23rd, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, July 22nd, at St. Charles Parish where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM.
John was born June 21, 1940 to John William and Alice Kathryn (Byars) Underhill in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Central High School where he participated in track, baseball and football. In 1963, John was drafted in the U.S. Army serving in Korea, Ft. Bliss, TX and Ft Leonard Wood, MO. On November 27, 1965 he married Mildred Marie Saluzzi. They were married 56 years and raised 3 sons, John, Stephen, and Philip. John was employed in both retail and wholesale grocery for more than 50 years. John was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and was active as Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, and Hospitality Minister. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, his family was the most important thing in life.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Kathryn Leathers; and grandson, Quentin Underhill.
Survivors include his wife, Millie; sons, John (Lela Susan) Underhill, Stephen Underhill, and Philip Underhill; 2 grandchildren, Nicholas Underhill and Alaxandria Underhill; and two great-granddaughters, London and Isabella Whitaker; sister, Beverly (Sherman) Lundy; sister-in-law, Teresa Hendrickson; and brother-in-law, Richard Leathers.
