John A. Mynatt, 69, of Olathe, KS passed away November 4, 2021 from natural causes. John was born July 30, 1952 to John “Herb” and Katharine (Stegeman) Mynatt and was the oldest of their four children. He grew up in Raytown, MO and was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, Raytown South High School (1970), and Central Missouri State University (1975) with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
John spent his professional career in the car business, working at such places as Boots Williams Ford, Bierwirth Chrysler-Plymouth, Heartland Chevrolet, ADA of the Heartland, and McCarthy Collision Center. In retirement, he enjoyed working at Sycamore Ridge Golf Club in Spring Hill, KS.
John was accomplished at many activities, including gymnastics, bowling, and golf. If he had a moment to bend your ear, there’s a good chance you heard about his collegiate gymnastics career, his near-perfect (299) bowling game, or his multiple holes-in-one on the golf course. He also enjoyed shooting pool, coin collecting, and a glass of wine with a nice steak. John was a member of Kansas City Turners and a life-long Chiefs fan.
John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his three siblings, Pamela (Ted) Boone, Gary Mynatt, and Susan Stanfill; two children, Kimberly Kliethermes and Matthew (Mary) Mynatt from his marriage to Peggy (Seigler) Mynatt; three grandchildren, Natalie and Danielle Kliethermes and Wesley Mynatt; and nephew, James Stanfill. While he was extremely proud of his personal accomplishments, he was even prouder of his kids and grandkids.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 3:00-5:30pm at Swope Memorial Golf Course Clubhouse, 6900 Swope Memorial Drive, Kansas City, MO 64132. Open house style, come and go as you please. Refreshments will be provided. Dress code is casual; Chiefs attire is strongly encouraged!. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to local diabetes research in John’s name.
