John A. Mura

John A. Mura, 82, passed away peacefully May 21st, 2024 at his home. He was born July 12, 1941, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Isabelle (Hood) and Edward G. Mura. John attended grade school at St. Francis Xavier and Rockhurst High School in Kansas City where he graduated with honors as a National Merit Scholar in 1958. Following his graduation, he continued his education at Regis University where he served as the campus radio station DJ until his graduation (with honors) in 1962. He finished his education at the University of Kansas where he earned a Master’s in Mathematics.

After graduation, he began his 30-year long career at IBM where he served as a Systems Engineer and President of the IBM Club. John loved Kansas City and volunteered his time to multiple organizations dedicated to the betterment of the community. He served as President of the Native Sons of Kansas City, President of Kansas City Club – 12 12 Club, and sat on the Community Service Board of the Seton Center.

John was blessed with a big heart and loving family. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Barbara (Brinkman) Mura. John raised his four children with patience, discipline, and humility. He was a loving father and grandfather who never hesitated to provide compassion and support to all those around him.

John is survived by his wife Barbara; his sister-in-law Patricia Brinkman; his daughter Anemarie Pruett (Tom); his sons William (Mia) and Elliott Mura (Chelsea); his grandchildren, Joseph, Henry and Benjamin Mura, Madelinde Pruett, Simon and Olivia Mura. He is preceded in death and united in heaven with his brother Edward Mura and his son Joseph Mura.

John’s visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 29th at Visitation Parish, 5141 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64112. He will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
