Our loving brother, son, father and friend, John, passed away on Nov 17, 2017 in Freeman, MO. He was 57 years old. He graduated from Avila College and through a friend landed his first job as a surveyor where he could work in the outdoors. He then moved on for 3 stints at Sprint in their business QA division at the Overland Park, KS campus and ending at the NOC Center. He lived in Fairway, KS for almost 20 years until he sold his house to look for a change. He loved the simple things in life and loved his doggies, Capone, Chief, and Spartacus. John and the dogs moved out to the country to rehab the family farmhouse. John loved the beach and the sun and could never refuse a stay in Florida nor could he wait for the grass to grow a millimeter longer at the farmhouse just so he could take his shirt off and mow 2-3 hours for a tan. John and his brother, Jesse, spent a memorable summer in 1972 at Leon, Mexico finding their family roots, playing basketball and soccer all day long and learning Spanish in 3 months! Like his father, John was a huge fan of boxing and never missed the large matches via pay-per-view. John had a vibrant life and a big heart to match. He always helped family and friends without fail. His infectious laugh and snicker/snort will be missed by all who heard and knew it.
His survivors include his father, Jesse Medina, Sr. of KC; mother, Lorenza Barbosa-Medina of Atlanta; brothers, Jesse Medina, Jr. of Atlanta and Joe Medina of KC; sister, Jackie Medina-Sikitch of Chicago; daughters, Brittany and Alexis both of KC; over 130 cousins in the greater KC area and countless new and old friends from KC to Florida and California.
Death can take him away from us physically but our memories can and will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
His Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, Dec. 16 noon-4 p.m. at the Unity Temple on the Plaza on West 47th Street in the lower hall. We ask that you bring any photos you have with John so that they may be displayed during the celebration.
