John L. Matlock, Independence, MO passed away on November 10, 2021. He was born October 8, 1931 in Independence, MO to Richard and Ruth Matlock. He grew up in Independence and played on the basketball team for William Chrisman High School, graduating in 1949.
He started working at Armco Steel in 1950, and retired in 1980. He met and married on October 14, 1950, the love of his life, Jean Shultz. They were married 71 years and had three sons.
In the 70's he got his pilot license and owned a single engine Piper Commanche and a twin engine Cessna 310.
After retiring, he moved to Padre Island, TX. After the oil spill, he moved to Sun City AZ until moving back to Independence in 2008. He was a member of Connection Point Church in Raytown.
John is preceded in death by his wife Jean and his parents Richard and Ruth Matlock. He is survived by his three sons Wes (Joyce); David (Cindy) and Wayne (Glenda); nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and five great, great grandchildren; sister-in-law Beverly Shultz and brother-in-law John (Nancy) Shultz.
Visitation will be 1pm, followed by funeral services at 2pm, Monday, November 15, 2021 at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
