John R. Lillis III

John R. Lillis, III age 82, passed away June 26, 2017 at the Veteran’s Home in Warrensburg, MO. John was born on September 10, 1934 to John R. Jr. and Mary Edith (McGee) Lillis. Once John completed high school at De La Salle he enlisted in the Navy serving through the end of the Korean War. Upon his return to Kansas City he started a career as a Job Shopper that staffed the Aero-Space industry in mechanical design. His work spanned 40 years covering 79 projects, through 24 companies in 13 states. He returned to Kansas City and retired in 1998. During these final years he remained strong in his Catholic faith, began a rosary group within the Veteran’s Home, active in starting a new AA group at the Veteran’s Home, and was very pleased to receive his 30 year pin. He was so very proud of his Irish heritage and was the Irish spirit of the Veteran’s home. Family was always John’s first priority. He did everything in his power to support the family and enjoyed many years together.

Services will be held Friday August 4, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 75th and Main Kansas City, MO, Visitation will be 10AM with a Mass at 11 am, followed by a reception. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Survivors include sisters, Mary Edith Lillis and Ann Lillis both of Kansas City, MO, Sheila Lyons of Brea, CA, brothers Dan (Judy) Lillis, Larry (Pat) Lillis and sister-in-law Janet Lillis of Kansas City. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother T. Michael Lillis and a nephew. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
