John “Jay” Tinoco, Jr. peacefully transitioned into his next life at the age of 65 on September 11th, 2023 surrounded by love and light from his family. He was born on December 31st, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri to John & Lupe (Mendez) Tinoco, Sr. He was a proud graduate of Lillis High School in the Class of 1976, and was an active participant in the Lillis High School Alumni organization. After high school, John began working at the Kansas City Club before getting hired onto Hallmark Cards, Inc., where he dedicated 47 years of hard work. He was an avid fan of Kansas City Chiefs football and the Royals Baseball team, and in 2005, began working as a Parking Lot attendant for the Kansas City Royals at Kaufman Stadium. If John wasn’t working or spending time with family, he was known for his love of live music and was often found at live music jam sessions here in Kansas City at Knuckleheads or Christine’s Firehouse Bar and Grill. John never knew a stranger, and was a social butterfly who never had issues making friends and acquaintances anywhere he went. He is survived by his two daughters, Lauren Tinoco and Angelina Tinoco; his two step-daughters, Regina Lawson and Melissa Marron; his sister, Carolyn Delgado; and his seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 5:00-6:30 p.m. with Rosary concluding at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 14 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 901 Cesar Chavez, Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept 15 at Sacred Heart Church, 2544 Madison Kansas City, MO. Interment will follow Mass in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1150 N 38th Street, Kansas City, Kansas, 66102. Condolences may be offered at www.mcgilleymidtownchapel.com.
A celebration of life for John will follow at the Eagle’s Nest Post 213 (Located at 1044 South 26th Street, Kansas City, KS 66106) on Friday, September 15th starting at 2 pm. Bring your own lawn chairs and come celebrate John the way he requested— with love, laughter and good memories.
