John R. Huckstep

John R. Huckstep, 72, of Independence, Missouri, passed away November 13, 2023 with his family by his side. A visitation will be held November 21, 2023, from 6-8pm with a closing prayer starting at 7:45pm at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 E 47th St, Kansas City, MO 64133.

John was born March 24, 1951 in Chanute, Kansas. He was the son of John William Huckstep and Juanda L. Lynch; along with four sisters Tanya Fuller, Debra Garcia, Jana Reynolds and the late, Glenna Grantz.

John graduated from Armijo High School in 1969. After graduation he relocated to Independence, Missouri, where he began his extensive career in the grocery business. He started as a sacker and worked his way up through the ranks to management over his 40+ year career, before retiring in 2015.

John was the true definition of the life of the party. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, an avid golfer, and a car enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing and going to the casino, but most of all he loved his friends and family more than anything in the world. He married the love of his life, Linda, on February 8, 1992 and became a devoted stepfather to Damien, Jamee, and Derek.

John was preceded in death by his parents and sister Glenna. He is survived by his wife, Linda; three children: Damien (Kerri) McCoart, Jamee (Todd) Riggs, and Derek (Victoria) McCoart; and eight grandchildren: Sophia, Milania, Derien, Arianna, Liliana, Dominick, Josiah and Dylan. He was the best Papa and will be deeply missed.
